East End Sound was founded by Nathan Blunt and built with the help of his brother, Declan Kilroe. Nathan and Declan grew up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. At ages 20 and 22, music has been a major part of both of their lives from a young age. Nathan has been playing drums since age 5 and trained at Third Street Music School Settlement through high school. As a kid, he was also part of Kids Rock and other youth music programs, and later studied piano and voice. Declan has been playing guitar since age 13. Growing up, music became a huge part of how they spent their time, both individually and together.
During COVID, Nathan and Declan started writing and playing music together more seriously in the bedroom studio they built on the Lower East Side. What began as a way to record ideas, practice, and spend time making music eventually became the beginning of their band, N&D. Since then, they have written, recorded in professional studios, released, and performed original music across New York City. As N&D, they released an EP and singles and played shows at venues including Mercury Lounge and Arlene’s Grocery. Both their formal lessons growing up and their experience starting a band shaped how they approach music.
East End Sound grew directly out of that background. What started in their bedroom on the Lower East Side has since grown into a basement studio in Springs, Amagansett, where they now teach and work with young musicians in the same kind of creative, hands-on environment that meant so much to them growing up.
